This course is designed for professionals who work with, or rely on, uncertainty analysis and risk assessment in oil and gas field development on a technical or commercial basis including reserves evaulation using the SPE-PRMS. Those who would benefit from this course include geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, facility and operations engineers, drilling and production engineers, pipeline engineers, reservoir engineers, economic/business analysts and managers.

The course provides an understanding of the underlying value and limitations of uncertainty and risk analysis, as well as a better understanding of the required data and assumptions involved in developing these analyses. The difference between uncertainty and risk is explained and illustrated by examples including subsurface uncertainty, drilling risk, project cost and oil price risk and uncertainty. Participants will obtain an understanding how to perform uncertainty analysis using Monte Carlo simulation and other techniques, the data required to perform these calculations, and the information gained by the application of those techniques. The limitations of the extrapolation of the results to the decision making process will also be covered. Throughout the course, the impact of the data, assumptions and technical limitations are related to the economic impact they have on field development.

This course is designed for professionals who have a need to understand the technical, economic and policy issues surrounding natural gas production in Eastern Australia. Those who would benefit from this course include geologists, gas facility and  production engineers, economic and business analysts, financiers and those involved in government policy at both State and Federal levels.

The course provides an in-depth understanding of the East Australia gas supply chain from subsurface reservoirs to gas markets including LNG, domestic gas, industrial and power generation. The emphasis of the course in on those aspects of gas supply which impact the delivery to gas to the consumer, and the capacity of the gas delivery system to meet peak market demand, both now and into the future. The source of the failure of the natural gas market in Eastern Australia is discussed both from a technical and economic perspective. Solutions to solving the problem of natural gas supply are presented including an in-depth discussion of gas prospectivity for both conventional and unconvential gas sources (tight gas, shale gas, coal-seam gas), transmission of gas by pipeline from the West Coast, North or PNG, and LNG imports.

This course is designed for professionals who need to understand the impact of rock stress on drilling and field development planning. Those who would benefit from this course include geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, drilling engineers, production engineers, reservoir engineers and technical managers.

The course develops the method of interpreted reflection seismic for essentially ubiquitous, pre-drill determination of quantified stress and identification of stress-induced geological hazards during drilling. Many applications follow such as the generation of pressure-depth graphs sufficient for the drilling of stable, inclined to horizontal wellbores for extended reach wells, or for planned placement of fracs advantageously relative to detailed, varying stress fields. Stress checking your seismic interpretation enables the prediction of potentially stranded reserves created by reservoir compartmentalisation by sealing faults. These and more stress applications are demonstrated from divergent margin basins to stacked thrust environments.
